The Top 10 Wedding Planning Tips I Recommend To Every Couple

Wedding Planning is stressful. It’s a lot of work. It can be overwhelming and emotionally and mentally draining. It’s like having a second full time job. Trust me, I know. ;) You want it to be perfect. You spend so much time and money investing in this one really special day and you want it to be just right. I totally get it! I have been there myself. So, after years of working in the wedding industry and once upon a time, being a Bride myself, I have come up with a list of super important Wedding Planning tips that I share with all of my couples that I want to share with you.

  1. Take Things One - Step - At - A - Time - There are so many parts to planning a wedding that it can be so easy to get overwhelmed and frustrated quickly. The best advice I can give you is to take things one step at a time. One task at a time. One decision at a time. Start with the big things first like your date, your venue and your overall style & design. Then, start working through the rest of your to do list and check things off one by one. Don’t try to do too many things at one time or make too many decisions at once. This will help you to avoid overwhelm and will help you better stay on track of the tasks at hand. *For more info on this, check out my blog post: What To Do To Fight The Stress Of Wedding Planning.

  2. You Can’t Please Everyone - The truth is that you can’t. And that is OK. Trust me. It’s ok. That might be hard to swallow but, it’s true. Someone will always have something to say about your wedding. Whether it’s mom, your future mother in law, your aunt, your cousin, your friend, etc. Someone will have comments or suggestions that don’t align with your ideas and decisions but, at the end of the day, your wedding is about you and your fiance. It’s not about anyone else. It’s always nice to consider and include some friends and family where appropriate but, ultimately, this is your wedding. It’s a celebration of your union and your guests will be glad to just be a part of it with you. Your opinions as the couple, are the ones that matter at the end of the day.

  3. Get Creative - Yep, get creative. Make your wedding unique to the two of you. Bring in your personalities, your favorite things, your love story and your couple style. It’s ok to drop traditions that don’t fit you as a couple and create an event that feels like who you are together. Serve your favorite foods/beverages, include your pets, include your favorite movies/books or music. It’s your day, make it feel like the two of you.

  4. Prioritize Your Budget - Wedding budgets can get out of control really fast. So, before you start booking vendors, sit down together and talk about what is most important to the two of you. What is a must have for your wedding for each of you? I usually like to tell my couples to list out the top 3 most important things for their wedding, other than marrying each other of course. ;) Once you know what those things are, you will be able to better allocate your funds to those most important parts of the wedding and will know where you will be better able to compromise.

  5. Order Some Extra Invites - Order yourself an extra copy or two of your invitation suite when you order your invites. You will want to have a copy that your photographer/videographer can use on the day of your wedding for flay lay images of your accessories, shoes, rings and details. Plus, you will want to make sure you keep a copy of the invitation for yourselves as a keepsake to look back on.

  6. Do A Hair & Makeup Trial - Make sure you schedule a hair and makeup trial with your styling team before your wedding. You will want to make sure you perfect your look with your team before the big day so that you can work out any kinks. This will allow you to try out makeup colors, looks, hair dos, etc so that you can create a flawless look for your wedding day. It will also allow you to get comfortable with your styling team as they will literally be up in your face that day. It will help you feel more relaxed to know that you and your styling team are all on the same page. Don’t skip this step. *If you want to learn more about the importance of hair & makeup trials, check out my blog post: Bridal Hair & Makeup Trial: A Step You Definitely Won’t Want To Overlook In The Planning Process.

  7. Go On Dates - That sounds simple enough, right? We tend to get really busy and sometimes wedding planning can take over all of our free time so, it’s important that you and your fiance schedule in time to just be together. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy. Takeout and a movie can be just the ticket. But, make sure that whatever you do together, you put down your phones and don’t talk about wedding planning at all. Just be together. Remember why you feel in love with each other and why you said yes in the first place. *Read more about this in my blog: Why Date Nights Are So Essential During The Planning Process.

  8. Communication Is Key - Make sure you keep good open communication with all of your vendors. When your vendors are in the know about what you like and don’t like, your ideas, your vision and your plans, the better they can serve you. Your vendors want to help create an awesome experience for you and your guests so, the more you can communicate with them, the better they can do their jobs. We all want to see your perfect wedding day happen the way you want it so, talk to us and talk to us often. *Read more on this topic in my blog: Why Communication With Your Vendors Is Key To A Successful Wedding.

  9. Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff - This can be a hard one. Especially if you are a control freak or type A person like myself. But, things happen. Things don’t always go 100% to plan. Life is funny that way. But, trust your team of vendors. They have your back and when things go awry, they can help you get things back on track. We always hope for the best but, plan for the worst. Just in case. In the end, the most important thing is that you are marrying each other.

  10. Remember To Live In The Moment - Your wedding day is a once in a lifetime day. You are marrying the love of your life. You are celebrating your love. Remember to just live in the moment and drink it all in. The day will go by so fast and you don’t want to miss a moment. Hire the best team of vendors to put your mind at ease. Be present and enjoy your day!

Now that you have these helpful tips, you will be able to plan your perfect wedding day! Good luck and have fun! Enjoy the process!

Happy Planning!

Love,

Naticia
