Finding The Perfect Bridesmaid Dresses
Let's face it, picking out the PERFECT dress for all of your bridesmaids feels nearly impossible. Everyone has different body types and different styles and sometimes certain dresses and colors just won't work on every body. How do you decide on the right dress for all of your bridesmaids? I have put together a few different avenues you can take when deciding what will best fit your vision for your big day.
Same Color Different Dress
If you are looking for a more streamline and cohesive look, one of the best ways to meet in the middle with your bridesmaids is by selecting the color and the fabric of the dresses but allowing them to each pick their own style of dress. Provide your bridesmaids with a set of guidelines for selecting their dress such as, the specific color (by the specific designer/brand you like because they can all vary quite a bit) that you would like them all to wear, the length requirements such as; floor length, tea length or knee length as well as the fabric you prefer such as; chiffon, crepe, velvet, satin or tulle. Being clear on what specifications you have for the bridesmaids dresses will be very important here. Allowing your girls to have a chance to select the best fitting dress for them will help them look and feel beautiful and special when they are standing next to you at the altar.
If you don't feel comfortable giving your bridesmaids that much freedom when choosing their dresses, choose three or four different styles that you approve of and let them choose from those options instead.
A More Uniform Look
Maybe you are more traditional and would prefer to keep the girls in all the same dress. That’s ok too! If this is the case, there are still options for you. Have you heard of convertible bridesmaids dresses? There are convertible bridesmaids dresses that allow the wearer to choose the different neckline of the dress all while wearing the same dress as the other bridesmaids. It looks uniform and cohesive but still gives your girls a chance to rock their own personal style.
If that doesn't strike your fancy, then I suggest sticking to a style, color and cut of a dress that will fit and flatter everyone's different body types.
Mix And Match
It has become a popular trend to mix and match dresses with different pops of colors on your bridesmaids. I have even seen some couples mix prints and solids together. If you have a big wedding party, this could be a super fun way to show off your bridesmaid's personalities.
Pro tip: Make a mood board of your wedding colors, flowers and textures which will be very helpful when deciding what dress colors will help you bring your color palette to life and will look great next to each other. Also, make yourself a chart or layout of where each bridesmaid will be standing with you at the altar. This will allow you to see who will be standing next who with their different colors, patterns or style of dresses on the wedding day. Keep in mind that you will likely not want to put two of the same type of dresses or colors right next to each other for visual and photo purposes.
Remember to make this experience fun! This is a great way to bond and connect with your bridesmaids, the girls who have chosen to stand with you at the altar. Once you have a vision in your head, take your girls with you and try on dresses together. Pop some champagne! Get a feel for what style looks best on everyone, and that way, you can truly see how it all comes together.
Happy Planning!
