My Top Favorite Wedding Cake Substitutions

It’s no secret, I am a dessert lover! So, it’s no surprise that desserts at a wedding are one of my favorite things! Coffee and dessert is one of my favorite parts of a wedding day and I love a good wedding cake but, couples are looking to incorporate different kinds of desserts into their wedding either along side the traditional wedding cake or, in lieu of the cake. So, here are a few of my favorite wedding cake substitutions to help inspire your wedding day desserts.

  1. Cupcakes - The classic wedding cake substitute is the cupcake and it’s a classic for a reason. Cupcakes are cute and can be super beautiful! They are easier to handle and eat then a piece of cake and are basically just cake in a small compact size. Which makes it easier to juggle with your drink in your other hand.

  2. Donuts - Donuts have become quite the wedding hit in the last few years. Some couples stack them in a cake shape, some display them on a wall, some serve them individually wrapped from a cute cart, some serve them hot with ice cream and some serve them at the exit as a late night snack for the ride home. No matter how you serve them, your guests will love them!

  3. Macaroons - I am a sucker for a French Macaroon. Delicate, beautiful and delicious! If you are looking for a more refined and sophisticated dessert, French Macaroons are a great option! You can spread them out across a dessert display or stack them up into a beautiful tower. Hello, gorgeous!

  4. Cookies & Milk - Who doesn’t love cookies and milk? Cookies and milk brings back all the cozy feels of being a little kid, eating fresh baked cookies in your grandma’s kitchen. Doing an assortment of flavors allows your guests to pick their favorites and of course, you need the milk for dipping. A classic combo that’s sure to please!

  5. Ice Cream Sandwiches - Are you or your fiance an ice cream fan? Well sundae bars can be clunky and messy, ice cream sandwiches put your favorite ice cream flavors in a perfect handheld cookie sandwich. Drinking and dancing can certainly have guests working up a sweat. What better way to help cool them down after dancing the night away then with ice cream? A perfect late night treat!

  6. Mini Pies - Anyone else a big fan of the pies at Thanksgiving? Pumpkin, Apple, Pecan, Blueberry, Cherry and so many other yummy options with a flaky buttery crust can be a cozy and refreshing change to the wedding dessert display. Plus, they are just so stinking cute!

  7. Chocolate Covered Strawberries - Milk chocolate, dark chocolate and white chocolate covered strawberries dressed up in a pretty display are a fun twist to the classic wedding cake or can even be a really great compliment to your wedding cake. Light and refreshing too!

  8. Candy Buffet - Sharing your favorite childhood candies can be a fun way to appeal to your guests sweet tooth’s. Display them in pretty glass jars and offer goodie bags that your guests can fill up so that this can play double duty as your dessert display and your favors.

So if you are thinking about forgoing the wedding cake and mixing things up, get creative and do a dessert that fits your style as a couple. Make it fun and make it you!

Happy Planning!

Love,

Naticia
