Don't Let A Small Wedding Budget Ruin Your Excitement

In recent years with the unprecedented pandemic, the wedding industry has been hit hard and it has shifted people’s priorities when it comes to planning their weddings. Smaller has become popular and just because you might have a smaller budget doesn’t count you out on still having your dream wedding. I hope by the time you have read through this today you are excited about planning your wedding no matter what your bank account says.

There are always ways to get the wedding you want without breaking the bank. A smaller budget can mean different things to each individual. What some might think is a small wedding budget might be $2,000 while others might think it’s $10,000 and some still might think a small budget is $50,000. Your budget is your budget and it’s important, no matter what the number is and it doesn’t mean that you can’t still create something beautiful and meaningful for the two of you. With careful planning and money management tools you can plan a beautiful wedding for a great price.

Cut out things that You Won’t miss

Weddings today have really stepped back from all the traditional mumbo jumbo and cut out things that take a lot of time and extra money. The best way to start is by making a list of what you want to have at your wedding. What are your priorities? What is most important to the two of you? Make yourselves a list of priorities. Focus on the things that are at the top of the list and talk through each priority to see how you both might be willing to compromise on those items to save yourselves some money.

Is cutting the cake super important to the two of you or do you see a dessert table or ice cream bar or cupcakes instead? This one small tradition could help you cut some costs. Most recently I have seen weddings with a single tiered cake for the couple to cut and a completely different dessert option for the guests. Large multi-tiered wedding cakes can be beautiful but might not fit into your wedding budget so don’t be afraid to get creative with other desserts that will be just as delicious but much less expensive.

Another traditional option that couples have been opting to cut recently are guest's favors. More often than not there are so many leftover on the tables at the end of the night because guests forget them, or decide not to take them home after all and they end up going in the trash, which makes for a huge waste of money for you as the couple. Favors really aren’t necessary anymore. Most guests won’t even notice if they don’t end up taking something home at the end of the night. But, if you would like to offer something in the form of a favor for your guests, offer a late night snack or goodie bag to go or set up a donation in lieu of favors so that your money goes into something you truly care about as a couple instead of a the trash can.

Careful Not To Fall Into Social Media Comparison Syndrome

It’s easy to jump on Instagram or Pinterest and get wrapped up in the most dreamy ceremony and receptions you ever did see. While Pinterest can be great to even get budget-friendly ideas it can also be not so great in some ways. It's important to remember that this day is about the love between you and your soon-to-be spouse. Getting caught in a comparing game with social media can get very pricey and can leave you feeling disappointed, overwhelmed and disheartened and that is no way to spend your months of wedding planning.

Remember that people love to come to weddings to share their happiness for the couple and to eat and dance. It’s a fun time basking in the joy for the newlyweds. People truly do feel honored when their invited to weddings so remember, they will be happy to see you and share in your day no matter what. The experience matters to your guests but the experience should be focused on the two of you, not how much everything cost. So focus on the love, the joy and the experience of bringing everyone together.

Smaller has become More Popular

With Covid still running rampant in 2022 smaller weddings have become quite popular. This is a great way to save and stay within budget. Smaller means a more intimate event which means you and your guests have a better opportunity to connect and really spend quality time soaking up the day together.

Having a more intimate wedding can open up your budget to other things you may have not been able to do. Saving on headcount, which is your biggest wedding expense, can make a big difference in food and dessert, alcohol, and your location. So don’t be afraid to go small. You can create a small wedding on a budget with a big impact by incorporating lots of personal details into your wedding day. Small can be mighty and filled with heart.

You can have a beautiful wedding no matter what your budget size.
