Three years ago, in the height of COVID, small guest size weddings were required. Since then lots of couples have come to prefer this option over a larger scale event. The more intimate aspect of celebrating with close friends and family has continued to be a trend. The truth is there are many benefits of having a smaller wedding and if you want to focus more on the guest experience this might be the way to go. I have compiled all of my favorite small and intimate wedding ideas to share with you here.

Reception Table Options

Having a smaller guest count gives you the option to have versatility with your table selections and your layout. One option that we love is a long family-style setup. This gives you and your guests the experience of actually engaging in conversation in a more intimate space. Think big family style holiday dinner vibes! Plus, a nice long farm table lends itself well to creating a long beautiful tablescape that can be spread down the whole length of the table, creating a picture perfect look!

Splurging On Guest Experience

If your guest experience is something that is really important to you then doing a smaller size wedding could be just the right thing for you! Creating a small and intimate wedding will better allow flexibilty in the budget to splurge on all the fine details you have always dreamt of. Upgrade the experience by providing the guests with extra entertainment, upgraded food or beverage options, multiple comfortable seating options, valet parking or comfy transportation to and from the venue. Creating an event your guests will truly enjoy will always be worth the money.

Lounge Spaces

With more space in your venue with a smaller guest count you can fill the space with more intimate places to mix and mingle like a luxurious lounge area or two or even a cute cocktail bar area. Adding in sofas and chairs with pillows, rugs, coffee tables and end tables will create a more comfortable and intimate space to relax and enjoy your day. Plus, they look amazing and will give you and your guests lots of great picture opportunities.

Build Your Own Appetizer or Dessert Bar

These sorts of things can get a bit complicated and messy at a larger reception but what a perfect feature for a more intimate setting. Offer your guests a build your own taco, pizza, mac and cheese, pasta or mashed potato bar during the Cocktail Hour. For dessert, offer a make your own sundae bar or donut or cupcake topping bar. This can be a lot of fun and a great way for your guests to interact and be entertained.

Live Music

Live entertainment can dramatically change the atmosphere and ambiance of your wedding space. Including a live instrumental musician or duet such as a harpist, violinst, guitarist or flutist or even an instrumental trio or quartet for your Ceremony and/or your Cocktail Hour can elevate the overall experience. This can create a more elegant, romantic, intimate and luxurious atmostphere! Adding a live band for your reception can really enhance the excitment and enjoyment of the dance floor as well! There is just something about live entertainment that really makes an event feel special!

Upgraded Tabletop Decor

With a smaller guest count, it can be easier to upgrade your tabletop design by adding on charger plates, upgraded China and flatware or unqiue glassware. You can even upgrade your linens by adding on tablecloths or napkins with different color, pattern or texture options. These items are typically an additoinal charge and are priced per person. With a larger guest count, this can get very pricey but with a smaller event, this can be a way to enhance the look and feel of your wedding and really elevate your wedding design.

Small and intimate weddings are still trending and the options are endless when it comes to creating a unique and beautiful wedding with a great guest experience. Where you decide to put your money is up to you. Whether you choose to opt for over the top florals and decor, upgraded food and beverages, extra special live entertainment or customized stationery, a smaller guest count can allow for more flexibilty and creativity with your design and your budget. Make sure to include personalized touches that really speak to you as a couple and bring your personalities into the design and experience. Have fun with it and make it your own!

Happy Planning!
