Bridal Hair & Makeup Trial: A Step You Definitely Won't Want To Overlook In The Planning Process

Yes, a hair & makeup trial is super important! If you are thinking you don’t need to do one, here is why I say, reconsider and book the hair & makeup trial now…

You found your perfect hair & makeup stylists and you’ve scrolled through Pinterest to plan out your perfect day of look! Awesome! One less thing to do. You trust your stylists completely to make you look beautiful on your wedding day, as you should! They are professionals after all. So, you may be thinking that a hair & makeup trial is just a waste of time and money. It’s not.

Just like trying on all the dresses before deciding on the perfect wedding gown that fits your body type, compliments all your best assets and meets your personal style, your wedding hair and makeup trial does the same thing. You want to be able to test out that perfect red lip, long wavy curl, or casual updo on your beautiful face. Not every “look” will look great on every person. We all have our own unique facial features, skin tones, hair textures, hair colors and lengths. A trial is a chance to try out the style you like online on your face and then make adjustments to that look that may be better suited for you, to bring out all your natural beauty and compliment your individual face and hair.

Another thing to consider is that you will be in front of a camera all day long on your wedding day so, your hair and makeup needs to stand the length of the day but also, needs to look good on camera. Certain makeup can make you look blown out, white washed or shiny in the flash while others can make your eyes look too dark or sunken in low lighting. Working through these things during a trial can help you avoid these issues with your photos on your wedding day.

Don’t do something completely out of character or way too out of the box for you either. You still want to look like yourself, just the most beautiful version of yourself. You don’t want to look unrecognizable or like someone else. Also, think about a look that your fiance might like on you as well. Use your trial as a chance to see how your fiance feels about your planned look. It gives them just a little sneak peek into what to expect on your wedding day. Plus, when your hair and makeup is all done up, it’s a great excuse to get them to take you out for a night on the town. ;)

Funny but, true story… when my husband and I were planning our wedding, I wanted to do this dark plums and purples sexy smoky eye look. So, I did my trial and my makeup artist did exactly what I requested. I thought it looked great and I couldn’t wait to get home and see my husbands reaction. Well, I was quite disappointed when I walked in the door and the first words out of his mouth were, “Whoa, you look like a hooker!” I had completely thought that he was going to love it but, I was so wrong. He later mentioned to me that he felt like the look really wasn’t “me”. He made a really great point. As a girl whose idea of makeup is just mascara and chapstick, this look was far beyond my typical style and, I really didn’t look like myself. So, I contacted my makeup artist and explained the situation and together we planned to do a more toned down version of my original look. She knew exactly what to adjust and change because she had gone through the makeup process with me during the trial and, on the wedding day, she was able to make those simple adjustments to make me look more like myself.

By not doing a hair and makeup trial, you don’t know for certain what your look will realistically come out like the day of your wedding. You don’t want to end up creating a whole new look with your hair and makeup artists the day of your wedding when time is of the essence. Use your trial as a chance to work out all the kinks in your look. Plus, a trial gives you a chance to get comfortable in the chair of the stylist who will be up close and personal with you the morning of your wedding, which is always a good thing! That way you can relax with your mimosa in hand knowing that your stylists know exactly what you are looking for and will make you look like absolute perfection!
